Above are images of my latest mag loop called “Dimitri”. I have given the loop this name
because at the heart of the design is the vacuum variable capacitor which came from an ex Soviet
Army stockpile. By clicking on the individual thumbnails you will be able to see full size versions
of the photos. This loop is made from Andrew Heliax cable and has a circumference of 4.21 metres.
The diameter of the loop is 1.3 metres. Physical dimensions are not critical because the vacuum
capacitor will neutralise reactance. Vacuum variable used is 10 - 750 pf and is rotated to resonance by
means of a small dc electric drill motor. Believe it or not, the loop loads very nicely on 80, 40, 30 & with
a push 20 metres. Operated at ground level inside my brick built garage, I point the loop toward Continental
Europe on a heading of 140 degrees.
